Following the 2002–03 WICB Cup, Smith was included in the West Indies squad to tour South Africa. He made his Test debut in the third match of the series. After scoring 20 in the first innings, Smith helped the West Indies to save the game in the second as he made 105 not out on the final day to become the eleventh West Indian to score a hundred on Test debut Smith played nine more Tests for the West Indies over the next two years without excelling with bat or ball, his debut hundred remains the only time he has passed 50 in a Test innings. During the tour he also made his ODI debut. He played all five matches of the series and finished with a disappointing average of 12.33.
After featuring in home series against Zimbabwe and India, and the DLF Cup (a triangular tournament played in Malaysia that also included Australia and India), Smith was included in the West Indies squad for the 2006 Champions Trophy. Although the West Indies, who were defending the title they won in 2004, reached the final, Smith made little contribution with bat or ball. After taking only two wickets and scoring eight runs over five matches played during the tournament, he was not included in the final against Australia.
In 2008 Smith was added to the Mumbai Indians squad during the inaugural IPL season, he replaced his national team-mate Dwayne Bravo.[26] He played four games during the season and was most notable for his bowling; he took 5 wickets at an average of 16.60.

Misbah-ul-Haq Khan Niazi is a Pakistani Test and Odi captain of the Pakistan cricket team. He is a talented middle-order batsman with enormous potential in him.Misbah ul Haq has been called Mr. Sensible due to his cool.He has a masters degree in business administration from the University of Management and Technology, Lahore. At the age of 33, Misbah was chosen to play in the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 in 2007 as a T20 expert, in place of the middle order Batsman Mohammad Yousuf . He had been regularly making runs in Pakistani domestic and in the years before his recall he was again and again one of the top run scorers at each season, his first class average above 50.
Due to the batting-collapses that Pakistan suffered during England tour 2010 and spot-fixing controversy, Misbah was recalled for the subsequent tour against South Africa in the UAE to lead as a captain of the team for test series. After resignation of Shahid Afridi as test captain and suspended captain Salman Butt due to spot-fixing scandal, Misbah was preferred over Younus Khan, Mohammad Yousuf and Kamran Akmal as captain. Wasim Akram stated that although the decision was surprising if Misbah bats and fields well everything else will go according to plan.
Former Pakistan coach Geoff Lawson stated that he believed Misbah has the best cricketing brain within Pakistan and he will do incredibly well in the plans for the captaincy[5] Misbah hit back at those who criticised the decision to appoint him captain and stated that he should be given a chance to prove himself [6] In his first match as test captain he set an example for his team when he scored 71* in a 168 run partnership with Younus Khan this helped Pakistan salvage a draw from the match. Misbah has led Pakistan in 21 test matches, winning 10, losing only 4 with 7 draws.
In 2012 Misbah led Pakistan to a clean sweep against the world number one ranked team England and also become only 2nd Pakistani captain to win the Asia Cup after Moin Khan. He has won 6 out of 10 series during his captaincy, winning series against New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, England and South Africa (a feat no Pakistani captain had been able to manage before Misbah), drawing against South Africa and the West Indies, and losing to South Africa and Sri Lanka.
